Packing for Korea:
Now with hindsight!
So... I majorly under packed. I brought a large suitcase, a small suitcase and a backpack. I should have gone with two large suitcases and brought a lot less formal clothing. The whole 'business casual' was a big fat lie. Everyone wears jeans to work and hoodies and whatever they feel as long as is it appropriate. The first week, we all dress nicely but after that is it free for all. I haven't cycled into my graphic tees but I am sure I could get away with it now.
Should Have:
- Casual clothing: I only had to be fancy for a week. E-mail a person at YOUR branch to see the situation for clothing.
- $3000 I got here a month before I started work aka 2 months before my first paycheck. So to start you have to pay for food, transportation, first month's rent, realtor's fee (400k won) and furniture. You could live much more frugally than I did but it is up to you!
- Toothpaste: Korean toothpaste isn't very strong. I like my mouth to be a mint windstorm post-brushing.
- Heat Protectant: There are more now but if you have a favourite just bring a bottle.
Should Nots:
- Tampons: In the past couple years it is now much easier to get your hands on them.
- Home Foods: Most of it is here and you want to experience the new foods anyways. Also you can just pay a bit more at specialty international food stores both on and offline. Use the luggage space wisely.
