Here is a little guide to help you through training week.
1. Don't get distracted. Korea is a great place with lots to do, places to see, people to meet but you only have to hold off for a week. If you don't, it could mean not having the year to enjoy it to the fullest.
2. Study. I don't mean scan, I mean mocking in front of your teammates. Don't like your group? Find other people or study on your own. There are lots of great people that come to work for Chungdahm but this is a job first and foremost. This isn't friendship time, you are here to train. If you make friends like I did; great. If not you will have time. Don't get pressured to go out just cause everyone else is. (studied about 9 hours including #3 and #5)
3. Study more. This means going over provided materials, asking your instructor things that are unclear, asking your instructor to mock if it helps you get a clearer idea, and EMAIL YOUR INSTRUCTOR FOR ANSWERS. They are here for us to learn from. They will mark you on Friday so make SURE you are on top of their criteria which may differ from the other instructions given to other groups.
4. Take the feedback and improve. They want you to pass but if you can't learn quickly and show that you are making an effort to be better, they will find someone else.
5. Study while eating. I think it helped to eat with my group. We would discuss our ideas and go over things with each other. We also became comfortable so we were able to joke around in class so interactions were comfortable.
6. Be nice and friendly with your group mate. You don't have to be buddies after but at least be on good terms so you help each other out. Secret signals for when you need to be louder or if you forgot something is great and just knowing someone has your back is also great.
7. Be nice to your roommate. Same deal except you are sharing the same space for the week.
8. Just be nice and stay out of drama. Its a group of people around the same age having to see each other ALL WEEK. There will be drama and there will be people who don't like each other. Don't vocalize it, don't sleep with each other, don't make or delve into drama. If it happens around you just be the bystander and back away slowly. There is nothing you can do.
Other than that, work hard so you can play hard and be good at your job. Worry about your housing, ARC and all the other stuff later. Focus on your job that can be taken away from you. It differs between every group but just under 20% of the people didn't pass. Don't be one of those people for your own sake.
